Key new features in WaterCAD V8i (SELECTseries 4)
Here is a preview of the main new features that will be available:
ENHANCED OPERATIONS
These new features will help users optimize the efficiency of water distribution systems, minimizing operational costs and improving emergency response:
Viewing hydraulic modeling results in the control room will be available as a technology preview for SCADAConnect users who would like to test it and provide our development team with feedback related to the specific needs of their organization. (SCADAConnect is available for WaterCAD as an add-on module and is included with WaterGEMS).
Energy cost improvements will enable users to aggregate energy costs across pumping stations and to compute energy costs using complex tariffs. In addition, non-model-related energy costs will be included.
Earl C. Schneider, Vice President at Hatch Mott MacDonald, said prior to its release:
“The enhanced energy cost analysis tools in the upcoming release of WaterCAD/WaterGEMS V8i (SELECTseries 4) will enable us to handle complex electricity tariffs. We expect this will help us achieve better energy savings when conducting water distribution system energy cost studies for our clients.”
Enhanced pipe flushing analysis will allow users to perform flushing studies with multiple flushing runs and flushing areas.
New automated flushing reports will show the location of valves and hydrants that field staff need to operate when carrying out their flushing programs.
IMPROVED IT PERFORMANCE
Improved hardware and software performance will improve users’ productivity, especially when working on complex models:
SQLite database format will solve existing limitations of the MDB format (for example, 2GB maximum file size). In addition, the new file format stores data more efficiently, decreasing database file size by 50 percent on average.
Enhanced interface: it will include new capabilities, such as background layer and element symbology copy/paste, symbology definition import/export, and property search to filter element properties.
UPDATED GIS AND CAD INTEROPERABILITY
Updated support for MicroStation
You will be able to run WaterCAD from within MicroStation V8i (SELECTseries 3). This capability is standard for users of both \’WaterCAD Stand-Alone\’ and \’WaterCAD for AutoCAD\’.
Updated support for AutoCAD
Users of \’WaterCAD for AutoCAD\’ will be able to run WaterCAD from within AutoCAD 2013 (32- and 64-bit versions).
