Power generation and propulsion markets have fostered innovation at NUMECA since the company was founded in 1992. Today, FINE™/Turbo and its unmatched meshing tool Autogrid5™, a fully automatic mesh generator for blade geometries, are known as pioneering products in the field of turbomachinery simulation.

FINE™/Turbo is a turbomachinery-focused CFD suite with a grid generator, solver, and post-processor integrated into a single user-friendly interface. The fast, high-accuracy, multi-block structured Navier-Stokes solver at the core of FINE™/Turbo has been developed and validated for flow phenomena characteristic of turbomachinery, e.g. steady and unsteady rotor stator interactions. The solver is capable of simulating flows from low subsonic, using artificial compressibility, to hypersonic. The FINE™/Turbo solver has low computational costs in terms of RAM and CPU time and was proven to be faster than competing commercial codes—­­­­­­a result of advanced multigrid simulation techniques. The new CPU Booster adds additional speed-up by allowing high CFL numbers and can reduce CPU time by orders of magnitude. With the Non-Linear-Harmonic (NLH) module, unsteady flow in multi-stage turbomachinery can be simulated in hours with a single passage mesh at low CPU costs.

AutoGrid5™, the meshing component of FINE™/Turbo, is a structured, multi-block, fully hexahedral grid generator for all types of rotating blade machinery including complex axial, radial, and mixed configurations. AutoGrid5™ is tailored for CAD import and visualization of blade geometries with advanced algorithms and blade-specific mesh wizards for easy generation of high quality meshes. Turbomachinery geometries can be meshed within minutes on a standard laptop. AutoGrid5™ is also available in the AutoMesh-4G package.

IGG™, FINE™/Turbo\’s interactive meshing tool, is suitable for generating multi-block structured meshes for geometries of any type, e.g. volutes, diffusers, nacelles, inlet/outlet chambers or distributors.

FINE™/Design3D is a highly customized design tool for optimization of turbomachinery blades and channels allowing engineers to explore innovate, computer-based design solutions. FINE™/Design3D features the parametric blade modeler AutoBlade™ and a highly automated workflow process for straightforward definition of design constraints and objectives. The design space is explored in a multi-point, multi-objective context with a design of experiments methodology and advanced artificial neural network and genetic algorithms. FINE™/Design3D’s all-in-one structure allows for direct integration into a turbomachinery design cycle.

AutoBlade™, at the core of FINE™/Design3D as well as a stand-alone tool, is a 3-D parametric blade modeler featuring predefined templates for compressors and turbines and other turbomachinery. AutoBlade™ provides a multi-view graphical layout for easy editing and analysis of design parameters. Complex 3D blade geometries are built from 2D cross-sections and stacking laws, with a minimum of geometric inputs. Parametric models can be quickly created from predefined templates or from existing geometries with the fitting module.

FINE™/Open (previously FINE™/Hexa) is NUMECA\’s unstructured CFD suite for simulation of internal and external flows, combustion, and mutiphysics systems in all types of geometry configurations. The FINE™/Open unstructured Navier-Stokes solver has a large selection of physical and turbulence models, fast convergence through agglomeration multigrid techniques, and the new CPU-booster, which provides additional solver speed-up through algorithms that permit high CFL numbers. The solver has been validated for a wide range of flows including transonic, supersonic, and hypersonic flows. Fluid-structure coupling between FINE™/Open and a FEA (Finite Element Analysis) code is possible through the MPCCI interface.

HEXPRESS™ and HEXPRESS™/Hybrid, the meshing components of FINE™/Open, are automated unstructured grid generators for any type of geometry. High quality meshes with viscous layers can be quickly generated for on complex geometries using automated volume-to-surface algorithms. HEXPRESS™ generates non-conformal, body-fitted, fully hexahedral meshes within the framework of a user-friendly mesh wizard for rapid setup and grid refinement. Advanced smoothing capabilities provide high quality boundary layer insertion. HEXPRESS™/Hybrid, generates hex-dominant, conformal, body fitted grids in parallel and has a CAD cleaner/wrapper for repair of imperfect geometries. Complete automatic meshing of complex, detailed geometries can be accomplished in batch or GUI mode within hours with HEXPRESS™ tools. HEXPRESS™ and HEXPRESS™/Hybrid are also available in the AutoMesh-4G package.
