Geometric Limited, a leader in Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Global Engineering Services and Offshore Product Development (OPD) solutions and technologies, announced the release Service Pack 2.0 solids-based CNC programming solution, CAMWorks 2012, with support for SolidWorks 2012, as well as improvements to enable faster and easier programming, and to produce more efficient tool paths for improved machining productivity.

Some of the improvements in functionality and ease-of-use in CAMWorks 2012 include:
Support for SolidWorks 2012
– Feature recognition performance and recognition improvements
– Version 4.0 of VoluMill with the new Non-Concentric Milling technology that reduces cutting-tool loads, and evacuates chips more effectively, thereby increasing the tool life
– Reduction in the time taken to save the files containing a large number of tool path moves
– Ability to add new tools into the TechDB from within CAMWorks
– Shaded display of Contain and Avoid areas Turn roughing operations now support user defined inserts
Fixed OD Milling in a contour mill turn operation does not do a Rapid down to the start of the cut. It does a feed move instead, which is incorrect.
– For the specific part, SolidWorks and CAMWorks crashes when user tries to machine simulate this file after defining the stock with specific STL file and offset any axis by some value on 64-bit machine.
– For this specific part, when arc leadin is given for contour mill operation, the simulation shows an error and does not continue.
– In setup tab of machine definition, when origin offset is ‘non-rotated’, then the posted output is different than when ‘rotated’ is selected. Ideally, there should be no difference in post.
– For the specific part, SolidWorks crashes when Feature Recognition using MfgView is executed.
– In this part when from WIP option is set to previous left over for rough mill then, the generated rough mill toolpath is not satisfactory. The previous operation defined is a face mill operation.
– Feature segments are not getting highlighted by specific color when selected to define the variable allowance. This behavior was not observed in CW2011.
– In EDM, when user adds two configurations and select a different make and model for both the configurations, then the machines are not saved for the configuration which is activated.
– In CAMWorks operations, if the checkbox of ‘Lock spindle speed’ is checked, then XY feedrate is not updated when spindle speed is changed.
– CAMWORKS FlexLM License Manager given in CW2012 DVD does not work with Windows Server operating machines. Teksoft.exe error message is displayed.
– In the Polish language version of CAMWorks, when user does RMB on the setup in the CAMWorks Feature Tree and selects, ‘Insert Multi surface Feature’, the dialog that pops up doesn’t have any alignment and resultant dialog controls are not clear. This issue is not observed for any other language version.
– For the specific part, rough mill toolpath generated for irregular pocket feature is incorrect.
– For the specific part, the Max cut amount value entered by the user for the VoluMill toolpath changes every time the focus shifts to a different tab in the Operation Parameters dialog.
– For the specific part, when Feature extraction method is set to ‘Revolved Section’ and ‘Extract Machinable Features’ command is executed, then CAMWorks crashes out after some time.
– Camworks crashes when the specific part is opened with CAMWorks Add-in set to ‘Active’ in SolidWorks.
– In Turn Finish operation, if the first entity of the feature is a fillet and leadin is applied, then the toolpath does not cut the complete fillet and leaves some material. The leadin is applied at the wrong position on the feature.
